Job description


We are seeking a skilled and experienced Workshop Technician to join our onshore team at a Gas Receiving Facility. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in general workshop operations including fabrication, welding, machining, mechanical fitting, and assembly of components. The role requires a strong understanding of industrial plant operations, precision measurement, and equipment maintenance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general workshop activities such as fabrication of small supports, structural assemblies, and precision components.
  • Conduct welding tasks using standard techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick) to fabricate or repair components.
  • Operate and maintain workshop machinery including lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and other bench equipment.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications to produce accurate machined parts.
  • Carry out general machining, mechanical fitting, and fabrication activities.
  • Manufacture and assemble metal components for tools, machinery, and plant equipment.
  • Apply appropriate measurement and testing techniques to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on workshop tools and equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and workshop housekeeping standards.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to support plant operations and maintenance activities.

Profile

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience working in industrial plant environments, specifically during plant operations.
  • Proven experience in a workshop setting within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or similar heavy industrial environment.
  • Proficient in the use of measurement and testing instruments (e.g., vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Skilled in the operation of mechanical workshop equipment such as lathes, milling, and drilling machines.
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical fitting and assembly work.
  • Ability to fabricate components from raw material to final assembly.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and practices in industrial facilities.

 

Preferred Skills and Attributes:

  • Technical/Vocational certification in Mechanical Engineering or relevant trade.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good physical condition and ability to work in workshop environments.
  • Team player with a proactive work attitude.
