Job description
We currently have an opportunity within SPIE Global Services Energy, Qatar for a : Turnaround Static Engineer (Ammonia)
JOB PURPOSE
Support the successful planning, preparation, execution, and close-out of turnaround activities for the Ammonia Plant by coordinating with the Turnaround Coordination Team, Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, Engineering, Contractors, and Support Functions.
Ensure assigned turnaround deliverables, execution readiness activities, work packages, materials, resources, contractor requirements, and static equipment maintenance activities are effectively managed and completed in accordance with approved schedules, quality standards, HSE requirements, company procedures, and turnaround management processes.
Monitor turnaround progress, support risk mitigation activities, manage scope changes, resolve day-to-day execution issues, and contribute to achieving turnaround schedule, cost, quality, and operational readiness objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Turnaround Budget & Cost Control
Support the development of equipment-level turnaround cost estimates for assigned static equipment and systems.
- Ensure accurate cost allocation between OPEX and CAPEX in accordance with Turnaround Management System (TMS) requirements and SAP work order structures.
- Monitor expenditure during turnaround execution and support cost control activities.
- Participate in budget versus actual cost analysis and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Contribute to turnaround lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives for future turnaround events.
Turnaround Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate turnaround preparation and execution activities involving static equipment with Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, Reliability, Engineering, Planning, Materials, and Contractors.
- Support the Turnaround Coordination Team (TACT) in developing work packs, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), method statements, inspection plans, quality plans, and execution strategies.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining turnaround schedules, readiness plans, and execution milestones.
- Coordinate interfaces between stakeholders to ensure efficient turnaround delivery and equipment availability.
- Participate in turnaround readiness reviews and ensure assigned activities meet required readiness criteria.
Static Equipment Engineering Support
- Provide technical support for turnaround activities related to static equipment including:
- Pressure Vessels
- Heat Exchangers
- Columns and Towers
- Boilers
- Piping Systems
- Storage Tanks
- Reactors
- Furnaces and Fixed Mechanical Equipment
- Coordinate inspection findings, repair recommendations, and engineering requirements.
- Ensure repairs and modifications comply with applicable codes, standards, and company specifications.
- Review inspection reports and support repair scope development.
- Provide technical recommendations for equipment integrity, reliability improvement, and risk mitigation.
Profile
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant Engineering discipline.
Minimum 5 to 10 years of direct and relevant experience in:
Turnaround Management
Static Equipment Maintenance
Plant Shutdowns and Startups
Petrochemical, Fertilizer, Refining, Gas Processing, or Ammonia Production Facilities
Experience in Ammonia, Urea, Fertilizer, Petrochemical, LNG, or Oil & Gas facilities.
Experience supporting large-scale plant turnarounds and shutdown events.
Knowledge of international engineering and inspection standards (ASME, API, TEMA, NBIC).
