SPIE Services Nigeria Limited is currently looking for a Reciprocating Equipment Specialist Engineer to join its work force in Nigeria.
He /She will oversee all activities relating to reciprocating machines (gas compressors, diesel/gas engines, generators etc.) for JV Assets. The role requires both technical leaderships including supervisor work at site and administrative management, ensuring alignment with company referential and industry standards.
The incumbent will interact with:
- Maintenance and Operations teams (onshore & offshore)
- Support Services (Contracts & Procurement, Logistics, ECP, PAR, Finance etc.)
- Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and technical service providers
- External contractors, vendors, and JV partners
ACTIVITIES:
The incumbent is required to perform the following duties:
Technical Responsibilities
- Lead preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of reciprocating machines across onshore and offshore facilities.
- Perform complete engine teardown and rebuilds on diesel and gas generators
- Diagnose and resolve complex failures, ensuring timely mobilization of OEM field service engineers when required.
- Perform minor, major overhaul, repair and commissioning activities of combustion engine at site without OEM FSR
- Review and approve technical specifications, repair procedures, and modifications.
- Lead and supervise service team working on engines either for preventive or corrective operation, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Perform QAQC follow up of equipment refurbished at specialized workshop
Ensure compliance with international standards and company rules in design, overhaul, and certification of reciprocating equipment. - Validate spare parts lists, critical stock levels, and obsolescence management.
- Analyze equipment reliability, availability, and performance data, recommending improvements for cost and efficiency optimization.
- Support audits, inspections, and HSE compliance on equipment-related activities.
- Generate root cause analysis, technical service reports on work executed
Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and manage Scopes of Work for contractors, including technical evaluation of bids.
- Oversee specialized service providers.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal management and external partner review.
- Ensure strict compliance with procurement ethics, documentation, and reporting standards.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers, supervisors, and contractors to build technical capacity.
- Ensure proper use of CMMS (UNISUP or equivalent) for planning, execution, and close-out of maintenance activities.
- Support other duties as assigned by Company
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education:
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
Experience:
- Proven 10 years of professional experience doing major overhaul on reciprocating equipment on industrial engine from Caterpillar, Wartsila, Perkins, Cummins etc.
Technical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of reciprocating machines (gas generators, diesel generators, gas compressors, etc.)
- Strong understanding of reciprocating machines design philosophy, maintenance, and certifications
- Strong understanding of oil and petrochemical industries standards relating to reciprocating machines
- High-level proficiency in Diesel engine troubleshooting using OEM diagnostic software and tool for calibration, fault finding and engine adjustment.
- Proven ability to rebuild industrial diesel or gas engine independently
Skills:
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality results under pressure
- Strong organizational and team management capabilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Fluent in spoken and written English
Certificate:
- Valid BOSIET OPITO approved
- Valid Medical certificate that state fitness to work in offshore and onshore oil and gas installation
